2024/04/19 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2024: Dutch Round - Friday's Free Practice Sessions

Dutch round starts with a rainy cold Friday

In typically changeable weather conditions for April, Dominique Aegerter finished tenth in the combined timesheets of day one in Assen.

The third stop of this year's FIM Supersport World Championship takes the series to the historic TT Circuit of Assen in the north of the Netherlands. After some luck weather wise in recent years, teams and riders had to contend with very changeable conditions on Friday.

Due to the mixed conditions in both sessions, Dominique Aegerter and his experienced technical crew from the Italian GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team were forced to change their strategy for free practices. Nevertheless, Aegerter initially finished eleventh on slicks this morning and improved by almost half a second in FP2, which secured him ninth place.

After the Superpole on Saturday morning, the first main race of the weekend will start as usual at 14:00 and can be followed via the "ServusTV on" app and via live stream on ServusTV Online as well as on the official WorldSBK website. A video pass must be purchased for the latter. Eurosport 1 will broadcast a recording on Sunday morning.

FP1: P11 - 1´36.602 / FP2: P9 - 1´36.216

"After the long break, it is nice to be back on my race bike. Unfortunately, the conditions were very changeable today, just as the forecasts said. It was still a bit wet at the start of both sessions. That is why we could not fully implement our plan in the morning and afternoon. In the end, however, we had valuable practice times in the dry and in the wet, which was good overall. Tenth place in the combined timesheet is not what I wanted to achieve. I wanted to be further up front."

"But we are working on improving, even if we still have a bit more work ahead of us for possible wet races. In the dry, we still need to fine-tune the electronics and the bike’s set-up. We will take a closer look at this tonight in order to be more competitive. I want to finish in the top six in Superpole, which I will also try to achieve in the race. Hopefully the weather will be a bit more stable tomorrow."
