2020/03/13 - MotoE™ World Cup 2020: Off. Jerez Test

First outing with MotoE™ Bike completed with positive feelings

During a three-day testing at southern Spain’s Jerez this week, Dominique Aegerter has made his first acquaintance aboard this year's race bike.

In 2020, Dominique Aegerter will compete for the German Dynavolt Intact GP team in the recently created MotoE™ World Cup. This racing series with electric racing bikes includes five events. From Tuesday to Thursday, the 29-year-old Rohrbacher and his technical crew began its on-track preparations. In good conditions with warm weather, Aegerter was already well accustomed to the electric racing machine. But first, it needed some adjustment to understand the maximum charging capacity of the battery, which is only enough for eight, nine laps at the 4.5 kilometres long Circuito de Jerez. The schedule included three sessions per day. Aegerter impressed in third place at the end of this test.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica):

"The change to this electric bike is of course a big challenge for me. It's something completely different than what I've been riding and was used to. Therefore, it was not easy at the beginning to get familiarized with it. With a maximum of eight, nine laps during a session it was difficult to build up a feeling and a rhythm. Fortunately, I have a well-rehearsed crew and a strong team behind me, who have already gained experience with this technique last year. The biggest difference is the higher weight of the bike, as well as the performance in every area is noticeable though, when riding I would have expected more power coming from the engine. The riding in corners is also getting used to because it is a constant throttle on and off. But the acceleration starts very evenly. When braking, however, the 260 kg are a huge chunk that has to be stopped, while the high weight is hardly noticeable in corners itselves."

"But as soon as I became familiar with these circumstances, we were able to improve continuously. My crew also has made a very good plan for this first test. In terms of set-up, there are not so many options possible with this bike. The perfect seating position was quickly worked out, but then we were able to improve a lot with the chassis and with the engine brake. In the end I felt very comfortable. This was also clearly visible in our lap times. But as a rookie it was most important for me that we finished this test with a very good feeling overall. Hopefully we can test again at a track next month in order to get more laps under our belts and experience before the first race weekend come along. Otherwise, we can be very happy with the current standings. I think I've done a good job of changing over quickly."
