2020/11/21 - FIM Moto2™ World Championship: Grande Prémio de Portugal / QP Report

#PortugueseGP: eautiful outcome the priority goal for Sunday in Portimao

After an eventful Saturday, Dominique Aegerter was missing three tenths of a second to make the leap into the second stage of the time chase for the best starting positions.

After significant improvements during the second free practice session on Friday afternoon, Dominique Aegerter was confident for day two of practice at the season’s finale. The ambitious rider from the canton of Bern also started quite determinedly on Saturday morning. But after a few laps he had to return to the pits of his Dutch NTS RW Racing GP team due to technical issues. Aegerter therefore wanted to make it into the second qualifying via the detour of Q1. His plans seemed to become reality in the beginning, however, in his final attack it was not quite enough to finish among the top four of this session. Aegerter will therefore start on Sunday from the eighth row of the starting grid in 22nd spot.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (NTS RW Racing GP, NTS), Grid position 22 - 1´43.814 (9/9):

"The conditions for the qualifying were not necessarily at its best, because we had technical problems this morning. So, everything was to come in Q1. I pushed unbelievably hard right from the start to make the leap into the second heat. Unfortunately, all my efforts remained unrewarded, because among other things I could not improve my lap time compared to Friday. That annoys me a little bit. Apart from that the gaps are incredibly tight again. Apart from that, my crew did a great job until the afternoon to get my bike ready right in time for qualifying. It was in top condition again, so a big thanks to them. But I still need more time and kilometres to get more familiar with the NTS bike again and to get a better feeling for this track."

"Because of these circumstances, in the end, the few tenths that were necessary to get into Q2 were missing. During warm-up session on Sunday morning we will try out a few more different things to improve a little here and there. Nevertheless, the race will be a long and hard fight. But over the distance we should be in a good position, because we always have good grip. Hopefully, I can fight for a few points. In any case, in the last race, together with my teammate Bo Bendsneyder, I would like to give the team a nice finish to such an unusual season."
