2021/11/20 - FIM Supersport World Championship: Indonesian Round / Saturday - Race 1

Strong second in a difficult Supersport race debut at Lombok

However, with 20 points, Supersport champion Dominique Aegerter and his Dutch Ten Kate team took an important step closer to winning the team championship on Saturday.

The debut race of the new circuit at the neighbouring island of Bali in Indonesia was marred by light rain. Dominique Aegerter, who had secured the last pole position of the year in superior fashion just a few hours earlier, his fourth overall since switching to Supersport World Championship last winter, was at the beginning of the race a bit unsettled due to the conditions that had been unfamiliar so far this weekend.

However, once the newly crowned world champion was able to find a proper feeling for the ever-changing track conditions, Aegerter made up a lot of ground with a series of fastest race laps and ultimately finished the penultimate round of the season in second place, just a tenth of a second behind surprise winner Raffaele De Rosa from Italy.

The second race of the weekend will start on Sunday at 13:30 local time. Early risers can follow it via live stream on the SRF website from 06:15 CET.

Pole-Position / Race 1: P2

"Second place in this difficult race is okay. After a few laps it started to slightly to rain. In some sections it was just some drops, while in others it was already a bit more. It was difficult to assess the track’s conditions correctly, as grip conditions varied greatly over the course of a lap. The white line marking the track’s limit, and, on the curbs, it was incredibly slippery. Maybe I was a little too cautious in this stage. That was why I dropped back to sixth place. But I certainly was not going to settle for that. So, I gave myself a jolt, because I really wanted to win or at least to be on the podium. In the final stages I was then definitely the fastest rider on the track."

"Unfortunately, my plan for the last lap did not work out to catch De Rosa. But the 20 points for second place are enormously important for the team standings. Winning this championship is still our goal for this weekend. I am also happy for Raffaele De Rosa. We have known each other since 2007, when we were teammates in the 125cc World Championship. He has certainly earned this victory. But on Sunday we have the chance to turn the page and to top this stunning season with another victory. A big thanks to my team for giving me a good bike for these difficult conditions. It is a lot of fun to ride here, especially as the support and enthusiasm of the fans is unparalleled. So, I am looking forward to tomorrow to experience all this again before we go into the winter break."
