#MalaysianGP: HOT SEPANG GET STARTED WITH FOCUS ON RACE DAY

#DA77: MALAYSIAN ROUND GET STARTED WITH FOCUS ON RACE DAY

At the end of the opening day in Sepang, Dominique Aegerter remained calm despite a drop down the order to P26 in the combined free practice times.

The race weekend in Malaysia got underway in typical conditions for this part of the world. After overnight rain showers, the 5.5 kilometres long track at the Sepang International Circuit dried out just slowly. Therefore, this morning’s FP1 was characterized by mixed conditions.

Towards the end of the session, as the track was almost completely dry, Dominique Aegerter and his technical staff finally could start to fine-tune the team’s bike for the demanding circuit close to Kuala Lumpur’s International Airport. The experienced Swiss rider finally closed the session in 16th position though during the second practice, they continued their work in order to prepare for race day in Malaysia.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kiefer Racing), FP1: P16 - 2´09.743 (15/15) / FP2: P26 - 2´09.507 (5/10):

"The conditions were initially not easy because of the damp track which dried out just slowly. In the end, we had a maximum of twice one half an hour in dry conditions today. In addition, the tire contingent for this weekend is not optimal because from the better option for the rear tyre we only have four to our disposal. That’s why we saved them for tomorrow and I think we will use this option for our time attack in qualifying too. For this reason, we were working foremost on the settings. Of course, our position doesn’t look nice, but we definitely don’t get crazy about our today’s lap times. More important is that we will start right away with the good tyre tomorrow and continue working on a good set-up for the race, as well as to get a good starting position in qualifying again. The weather situation is always very critical here, because it can start raining at any time. If a brief rain shower would bring some cooler temperatures at least."
