2020/10/11 - MotoE™ World Cup: GP de France / Race 2 Report

#FrenchGP: Superb comeback in the last race of the season in vain

After a strong rookie season in MotoE™ World Cup, Dominique Aegerter could not gain much from third place overall.

Two race crashes through no fault of his own are a heavy burden on the stomach of ambitious Dominique Aegerter. After the incomprehensible manoeuvre of a competitor three weeks ago in Misano, the 30-year-old rider from Rohrbach was involved in a collision right after the start in the first race on Saturday in Le Mans. Aegerter, however, was able to re-join the race and seal two points in 14th place. But his gap in the points table increased to 20 points.

On Sunday he had to start the last race of the season from fifth row. Aegerter had the best reaction of all at the start and after an incredibly impressive opening lap, he was first chaser of the leading group. But all efforts to get even further ahead were in vain. Regardless of this, something unforeseeable had to happen to make the impossible happen, as rival for the title Jordi Torres was behind Aegerter during the entire race, but always having Aegerter in sight. A clean fourth place at the end of a successful season in the MotoE™ World Cup could hardly cheer up Aegerter.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), Grid position: 14 / P4:

"Of course, disappointment outweighs the fact because we were so close. However, our starting position for the last race was pretty much reduced because of the 14th spot on the grid it was hard to still get it. Nevertheless, I gave everything until the end and left no stone unturned. The race also got off to a great start. In the first lap I was able to make up a huge number of positions. I was also quickly right behind the lead group, but I was never able to close the gap. That annoys me a bit that I could not go faster. We would have definitely deserved a podium at the end, and it would have been a nice finish. Another thing that pisses me off is that I am third in the overall standings. Matteo Ferrari crossed the finish line behind me and is second now."

"Otherwise, I think we had a successful season. Two victories and two third places are impressive. Unfortunately, we had unbelievable bad luck in the final stage. That cost us the title in the end. Nevertheless, we can be proud of our performance overall. On the other hand, we still have a score to settle with the MotoE World Cup. So, I hope that maybe next year I will get another chance to win this title with more luck and experience. But for now, I would like to thank my team, especially my crew for their great job, all sponsors and patrons for an unforgettable season. I have learned a lot in this environment that will help me in the future. Thanks, Intact GP for everything."
