2020/11/19 - FIM Moto2™ World Championship: Grande Prémio de Portugal / Preview

#PortugueseGP: Dominique Aegerter to race at the season’s finale in Portugal

At the last dance of the pretty unique 2020 season, the 30-year-old rider will once again fill in for NTS RW Racing GP from the Netherlands.

For Dominique Aegerter a participation in another race this year has been arranged at short notice. Like last time in August, when he replaced his fellow countryman Jesko Raffin at the Grand Prix in Brno and Spielberg, Aegerter will again ride the Japanese NTS Moto2 bike of the RW Racing Team. He thus returns to a familiar environment. This weekend Aegerter replaces Piotr Biesiekirski from Poland who had taken over Raffin's machine in NTS RW Racing GP from the second Misano race onwards.

The Portimao circuit is located a bit in the hilly outback of the beautiful Algarve coastline in the south of Portugal. The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve was opened in November 2008 and inaugurated by the Superbike World Championship in the same year. The Algarve Motorsports Park is a state-of-the-art complex with a breath-taking 4.6 km racetrack, a go-kart track, an off-road park, a hotel, an apartment complex, a technology park, and a sports complex. The layout of the Grand Prix circuit includes 15 corners and the hilly landscape in which the facility is located ensures a constant up and down during a lap. Therefore, Portimao is often referred to as a rollercoaster.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (NTS RW Racing GP, NTS):

"I was incredibly surprised when Jarno Janssen called me on Tuesday evening. I am sorry for Piotr Biesiekirski that he had to cancel the RW Racing Team for the last race. I do not know the reasons exactly, but I still want to wish him all the best. For me, on the other hand, a small dream suddenly came true, because I always hoped to be able to race this year one more time again. So, I am very happy to be part of the NTS RW Racing GP project once again. Last summer I already have made first class experiences with these people. I immediately felt that much comfortable in this environment and I also got along very well with the bike immediately. So, the conditions are now different than in Brno in August. In the meantime, I know the bike, and, unlike many other riders, I also know the track in Portimao."

"Portimao is the last race of the year. Nevertheless, this is reason enough for me to call up more than my 100 percent and I will also try everything to give the team strong results, like they had last weekend in Valencia. To fight for a top ten finish together with my teammate Bo Bendsneyder would be nice. But before that I would like to thank the team managers and all sponsors for thinking of me in this situation and giving me this opportunity. I feel ready because I have continued my training without interruption even after the end of my racing season. Because as I said, I always hoped for a chance like this. And now it has really come that far. Thanks again, I am really looking forward to my return to RW Racing. Even if it is only temporary."
