2021/03/28 - FIM Supersport World Championship: Shakedown-Test Almeria

First WorldSSP rollout with Ten Kate in Almeria

After private practice sessions with a Supersport Yamaha, Dominique Aegerter could now get to know the Yamaha YZF R6 in race version.

For this reason, Dominique Aegerter and his Dutch Ten Kate Racing team had travelled to the Circuito de Almeria in southern Spain for a two-day stay. Thanks to best conditions, basic set-up work could be completed before the only official pre-season testing in Barcelona on Monday and Tuesday this week is scheduled.

As is well known, the 30-year-old Aegerter will also make his debut in the FIM Supersport World Championship this year in addition to his ride in FIM MotoE™ World Cup. The WorldSSP championship begins on May 23rd with the opening race in Aragón, Spain. Galang Hendra Patrama from Indonesia will be his teammate this year.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6):

"Due to some postponements, the start of the season with the Ten Kate team has been delayed again and again. Last Thursday and Friday, however, the time had finally come when we were able to start our work on track with a two-day rollout in Almeria. The track there is not necessarily the most modern, but it was certainly enough for a first shakedown test with the new bike and team. The layout is demanding, and the weather was also good. That was why we were able to make the most out of these two days. First and foremost, we had to adapt the race bike to my needs. The priority was to find handlebar settings, footrests, and an optimal seating position. In a next step we started to tune the electronics regarding the engine brake. I also was able to get a first impression of the tyres used in Supersport World Championship."

"It was a successful debut in every respect because we also had to get used to each other as a team first. I had only met the guys once before, in the workshop last November. But I immediately felt wonderfully comfortable in the Ten Kate family. They have an incredible amount of experience and can look back on great successes. However, they still have some adjustments to make after Ten Kate recently switched to Yamaha after many years and is now competing in WorldSSP again after one season in the Superbike World Championship. But we still have some room to manoeuvre in this respect until the first race in mid-May in Aragón. Next, we will test for two days in Barcelona at the beginning of this week. This opportunity will be the first test of strength with all the competition. So, I'm already curious to see where we'll line up at the beginning. Finally, a big thank you to Ten Kate, all the sponsors and partners for giving me this opportunity to ride Supersport World Cup alongside to MotoE World Cup. Mainly this thanks goes to Yamaha, IXS and both teams I'm signed up for this year."
