2021/04/20 - FIM Supersport World Championship: Assen Test

Faster than lap record at Assen

On Monday, Dominique Aegerter and his Ten Kate Racing team completed their pre-season preparations at the TT Circuit Assen with another successful test.

In good conditions Dominique Aegerter was able to complete almost 90 laps at the famous Grand Prix circuit in the north of the Netherlands. Only freshening wind affected the work a little bit in the second half of the day. But this circumstance could not stop the 30-year-old Swiss rider from continuing his impressive form by lapping under the current Supersport lap record in this process.

The 2021 FIM Supersport World Championship gets underway on the third weekend of May with the opening event at the Spanish circuit MotorLand Aragón. Before that, in a week and a half's time, Aegerter starts his title winning campaign in the MotoE™ World Cup with its first round of the season at the Gran Premio de Espana in Jerez de la Frontera.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6):

"Our test yesterday in Assen was something very special for me. I cannot remember ever having a Grand Prix circuit completely to myself, as my teammate Galang Hendra Patrama was not there either. He had to go back to Indonesia to take care of all the visas and travel formalities for the next few months. We were also lucky with the weather. It was partly very sunny, so track conditions allowed us to work reasonably. Unfortunately, it became a bit windy in the afternoon. This was sometimes a bit disturbing, as the wind was constantly coming from a different direction. In the end, it was still an incredibly positive test day for us. My best lap time was slightly faster than the current lap record. That is definitely very pleasing and encouraging. On the other hand, our pace was not as consistent as in the last tests. I think that may have been due to the wind conditions and the fact that we used two different options of rear tire because of different asphalt temperatures."

"Nonetheless, our last test before the first race of the season on 23rd of May in Aragón was thoroughly successful. So, we will arrive there very well prepared, as we also already have valuable data from a test at this track. We are ready for the championship, although there is still room for improvement in some areas. But overall, we have had a super preparation at four different circuits. We have still got a month until the season opener in which we can analyze the data we have collected in more detail. I am sure that my team will work hard in the workshop during this time to make my bike even a bit faster. But so far everything is already working very well, and we are at a high level. Therefore, I hardly can wait for the first race of the season. A big thanks to the whole team for their hard work. My thanks also go to the operators of the TT Circuit of Assen for making the track available to us for this day."
