After a hard-fought race on Sunday in France, Dominique Aegerter was anything but happy with fourth place.
As with the opening round of the MotoE™ World Cup 2021 two weeks ago in Spain, the second round of the season was also scheduled to take place on Sunday morning. However, cool temperatures in the morning forced the race direction to change the schedule. As a result, starting time of warm-up sessions for all three Grand Prix classes was set slightly later and the MotoE race was postponed until the afternoon.
Despite this massive change in the day's schedule, however, Dominique Aegerter has not allowed himself to be rattled. What is more, the 30-year-old Swiss has well digested Saturday's bitter setback since long, when his pole position was retrospectively taken away from him due to the cancellation of his series of fastest lap times. Aegerter therefore went into the second race of the electric bike series highly motivated. From start to the finish line, every position was fiercely fought for, with last year's overall third-place finisher playing a significant role at the front at every stage of the eight-lap distance. A possible podium place only was lost on the last lap after an aggressive manoeuvre by a one of his main contenders.
#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), P4 +0.532:
"I cannot be satisfied with fourth place by any means. I did not get away so bad at the start and was immediately involved in the leading group. After that I managed my race well and I always made sure that I was in a good position. Everything went according to plan, actually. Even on the last lap everything was well prepared and in place. Before that I tried to pull away once, because I definitely did not want to make the same mistake as in Jerez. But today everything was decided on the last lap. Once Granado pushed me far to the outside and because of that I lost some speed, so that Casadei still slipped through on the inside taking this occasion to his benefit."
"A few corners later I tried to re-pass him, but he was in a better flow. Unfortunately, it was not enough to go through. I think today's race showed that we need to find a different tactic so that we are stronger towards the end. Nevertheless, we are amongst the absolute strongest of this category and we can also count on our experience working together since last year. That will definitely help us in three weeks' time when we come to Barcelona, a circuit that is new to MotoE. I know the Circuit de Catalunya from many years in Moto2 and I have been riding there already this year. So, I am looking forward to this challenge. But before that I am exciting about giving my debut races in Supersport World Championship, first next weekend in Aragón and a week later in Estoril."
