2021/05/27 - FIM Supersport World Championship: Estoril Round / Preview

Dominique Aegerter: «Nice to back in Estoril»

For the 30-year-old rider from Switzerland, racing continues this weekend with the second meeting in the Supersport World Championship in Portugal.

After his successful debut in the series with production-based 600cc bikes at world level a week ago in Aragón, Dominique Aegerter made a short trip back home. On Wednesday, however, suitcases had to be packed again to leave for the flight to Lisbon, because the Circuito do Estoril is located not far from Portugal’s capital. Aegerter has very special memories of the race track at the most western point of Europe. Apart from that, he has also set himself ambitious goals for the second round in Supersport.

The WorldSSP series is held as part of the FIM Superbike World Championship. The 2021 World Championship calendar contains 13 events, with two races on the schedule each weekend.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6):

"After many years I come to Estoril once again. I have fond memories of this track. I rode my first Grand Prix here in 2006. That was with a wildcard in the 125cc class. I will never forget this experience. So, I have known this track for 16 years meanwhile. Nevertheless, it has been a while since I have been to Estoril. But I still know where to go along very well. Racing a Supersport machine there, however, it will be a new experience for me."

"While I was at home in Switzerland for two days after the season opener in Aragon, where I prepared well for the upcoming task and continued my training, my team immediately went on to Portugal. I hope they still had some time to recover and switch off a bit. I am now looking forward to the second World Championship meeting of the year and cannot wait to continue working with them. It is nice to know that I have my next race this Saturday already, as well as I really like the schedule with two races in one weekend in general. Plus, everything is in place to perform strongly again this weekend."
