2021/06/11 - FIM Supersport World Championship: Emiglia-Romagna Round / FP Report

Promising opening day in hot Misano

With a small gap to the day’s fastest lap time, Dominique Aegerter ended up in third place after Friday’s practice sessions.

The Misano World Circuit close to the Italian Adriatic coast of Rimini is one of Dominique Aegerter's favourite places to work. During the first sessions of the season’s third Supersport meeting, the experienced 30-year-old rider from Switzerland made up for a lack of data with his excellent track knowledge.

An improved race bike in some areas, however, also helped to be able to set extremely competitive lap times. In summer conditions in the afternoon, the Yamaha rider even set the pace at times. A time improvement of 0.4 seconds compared to FP1 was the basis for this strong performance on Friday.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6), FP1: P7 - 1´38.943 / FP2: P3 - 1´38.596:

"It is nice to be back in Misano. I like it here and I like this track. Although it was very warm all day long, we got off to a very decent start to the weekend. I think it was a better start than at the first two races. We have improved significantly. After today’s free practice sessions, we are in third place in the combined timesheet. But the gap to the day's fastest time is minimal."

"Both sessions were remarkably interesting for an awfully specific reason. There are two tyre options for this weekend, both of which work equally well. That goes for both the softer compound and the harder option. For Superpole the decision has been made already with no doubts, whilst for tomorrow's race a possible poker may come into play. Apart from that, the team has improved the bike slightly. Especially in acceleration, we have made noticeable gains. They all have worked incredibly hard on it and their efforts have paid off."

"I want to finish Superpole with a grid position in the first two rows. Such a starting position will be such as important with a view to the race. In the end, though, you still need a good start, although you can still recover throughout the long distance. However, 18 laps at this track and in this heat is a lot and exhausting. There are some riders who are able to set a similar pace. But I will leave no stone unturned to be amongst the front runners. I am confident that I can do that."
