2021/06/27 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup: TT Assen / Race Report

Ambition paid with race crash

An early mishap deprived Dominique Aegerter on Sunday any chance to have a weighty say in the award of the podium places.

Round four of the season in MotoE™ World Cup was practically gone for Dominique Aegerter just after one lap. The 30-year-old Swiss rider blew the race with a crash in the tricky chicane at the end of one lap at the ultra-fast and flowing TT Circuit of Assen. Although Aegerter was quickly back on his feet and he also was able to get going his electric bike, which weighs more than 260 kg, to finish the race in a hopeless position. Despite today’s zero, he is still within striking distance having a 17-point deficit in the Cup standings ahead of the next event in six weeks in Austria, despite this zero.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica), P18 +50.109:

"I am very sorry for the whole team, all sponsors and fans. It is not easy to check-off this disappointment. In the MotoE category, a mistake like today is unforgivable. With just seven laps, it is impossible to make up ground again. In addition, the zero for the overall standings hurts twice. My start would have been okay, but I was immediately pushed wide by one or two riders. In this situation I had to fight hard, otherwise I might have dropped down the order by far. In any case, I pushed hard on the first lap to defend my position."

"The crash may have been preceded by a small riding mistake when I turned into the chicane a little bit too sharp. Everything was awfully close together. So, I was desperate to prevent anyone from overtaking me there. I touched the white line on the inside and slipped. I was able to finish the race, but it was not worth to do. There are still three races to go and at the moment nothing is lost as there are still 75 points up for grabs. For now, we will focus on the next race in Spielberg."
