2021/07/24 - FIM Supersport World Championship: Dutch Round / Saturday Report

Dominant fourth consecutive victory in WorldSSP

On Saturday in Assen, Dominique Aegerter made it very clear who is the master at the TT Circuit with a fine hattrick at the home race of his Ten Kate team.

With an unleashed lap, Dominique Aegerter stormed to the best starting position in Superpole. With a 1'37.222, the 30-year-old from Rohrbach once again improved the all-time lap record at the ultra-fast and flowing track in the north of the Netherlands.

In the first race of the weekend in the afternoon, Aegerter initially made it exciting. After a cautious start, he initially had to fight his way passing a few opponents before the Yamaha rider took command at the front on lap three. For large parts of the distance, his fiercest opponent in the world championship, South African rider Steven Odendaal, was able to follow close behind. But in the final laps Aegerter stepped it up a notch to further extend his lead in the overall standings with his fourth consecutive victory.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6), Pole-Position / Winner:

"It was another perfect day. So far, things are going very well for us. Even more so at the team's home race so that I am particularly pleased about that. As we had hoped, we clinched pole position, set the fastest lap in the race and in the end, we were right at the top of the podium. Only in the early stages’ things did not go according to plan because I did not get off to the best possible start. But after a few fights for position, I was able to take the lead soon. From then on, I was able to race a very strong pace until the end. That was not easy because I had to ride carefully partially due to our tyre choice. So, I am super happy about my high level of performance today. In addition, the team is doing a great job. They are working incredibly hard to give me a fast bike every time, not only for one lap, but also for the whole race distance."

"Tomorrow we have another race, and I will go out again with the last will to win again, even though the conditions might change. Already because of the different times, the track conditions will be a little different. But a change in the weather could also bring rain. If it is indeed wet tomorrow, then fortunately we can fall back on our experience gained in Aragón, where it was completely wet on Sunday morning during warm-up and later in the race, we used intermediates. We are definitely prepared for anything but let's see how it actually is when we wake up tomorrow morning. But before that, a big thanks to the team and all the sponsors. I am so happy for them to have taken this win in our special outfit, which is reminiscent of the early years of Ten Kate."
