2021/08/06 - FIM Supersport World Championship: Czech Round / FP Report

Fastest even at somehow unfamiliar territory

On day one of practice at the Czech round, Dominique Aegerter announced very impressively that he will also be the one to beat in Most.

During the first free practice sessions, however, the experienced 30-year-old Dominique Aegerter took advantage somehow from his track knowledge at the Autodrom Most. As is well known, the Yamaha rider and his Ten Kate team took part in a track day last month there, where the priority was to gain initial impressions of the 4.2 kilometres long circuit in the northwest of the country.

It was mostly dry on Friday, although a few raindrops in the afternoon disrupted the flow of FP2 a little. Aegerter started the fifth meeting of the season in fourth place this morning before snatching the day's fastest time with a «last minute» attack in the second session.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6), FP1: P4 - 1´36.227 / FP2: P1 - 1´35.446

"I have always liked to be in the Czech Republic and so I am also happy to be back here again, even though this time it is Most and not Brno. I think I am one of the few who have ridden at this circuit in the past already and I am lucky too that we took part in a track day here earlier in July. It was an important experience that we were able to gain information despite a lot of traffic on track. It already paid off this morning when I was immediately faster than I was during this test."

"Today we were lucky with the weather. Throughout the day, the sky looked threatening and sometimes it even started to drizzle. But we were able to complete our sessions in the dry. That was very important. For Saturday and Sunday, the weather should be nicer. Anyway, we were able to do many useful laps and collect kilometres. In the end, my lap time was very decent. But I do not know if it will go any faster or how much faster in Superpole tomorrow. But I think that we are already well positioned so far. Of course, I want to improve further, and the best would be to start the race from the front row. As far as our pace is concerned, I am not worried. So, I am already looking forward to the races on Saturday and Sunday."

"We quickly got to grips with the track. Of course, our test helped because we knew what the gear ratio we have to use. That was a big advantage to save a lot of time, plus I already knew the braking points and critical spots along a lap. The layout of this track is very varied. You can hardly believe how often it goes uphill and downhill out there. There are also the many hard braking points. Despite the many corners, however, it is usually very fast and flowing. You need a smooth riding style, because the track is also relatively narrow. On the whole, it is a lot of fun to ride at this track. There are some sections that I like very much. But the turns six to eight are particularly nice, as well as the fast corners at the end of a lap have their appeal and where you can make up a lot of time."
