2021/08/08 - FIM Supersport World Championship: Czech Round / Sunday Report

Shining like the sun with a season’s sixth victory

Performing impressively on Sunday at WorldSSP visit to the Czech Republic, Dominique Aegerter set the ranking right again in the second race of the weekend.

Being fastest rider out on track during warm-up in the early morning, it was the perfect start for Dominique Aegerter to a successful race Sunday at the varying track at the Autodrom Most. After Aegerter was not quite able to show his strength in the early stages of the first race on Saturday afternoon, the 30-year-old and his experienced crew from the Dutch Ten Kate team studied the data very carefully last night and implemented the lessons learned precisely. The Yamaha rider played a significant role from the start in Sunday's tenth race of the season. On the opening lap, he took the lead already and made everything clear with just a few laps to go, after a fierce battle for the today's victory had previously raged on the 4.2-kilometer circuit.

The next Supersport World Championship meeting will be held in two weeks' time at the Circuito de Navarra in Spain. This circuit is also a new addition to the championship's race calendar with production-based race bikes.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, Yamaha YZF R6), Race 2: Winner

"After yesterday's disappointment, this victory is a great satisfaction. I am so delighted and very happy about my performance. It was a mega-cool race from start to finish, with the very pleasing outcome that we collected 25 incredibly important points for the championship. Furthermore, I think we gave the fans a great show in each of the 19 laps. We are getting stronger race by race and understand the bike better and better, as well as I am getting more comfortable with each time in this series. It was a pleasure to ride this weekend in front of many Czech fans, as well as to dedicate this victory to my Ten Kate team, who have been working incredibly hard for this project for many months. Yesterday we were a little bit unhappy that we could not fight till flag and maybe dropped a few points as a result."

"But we extended our lead in the championship a little bit again today. We have seen before that if you do not have the best day, you may lose a lot of points immediately. The competition is incredibly tough in this class and takes advantage of every opportunity. That is why we will continue day by day and race by race as we have done so far. But we are at a very good level that allows us to fight for top positions in every session and in Superpole. But the most important thing is to finish each race on the podium and, if possible, to fight for the win. Next week I will be back riding MotoE™ in Spielberg before continuing in Supersport World Championship a week later in Navarra. I am looking forward to riding my Yamaha R6 again on this new track there."
