2021/09/16 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup: GP San Marino / Preview

«Final Showdown» for MotoE crown at Misano

Dominique Aegerter still has a score to settle from last year at the MotoE™ World Cup season finale in Italy.

The electric bike racing series is entering the home straight this weekend. The venue for the title decision, which is eagerly awaited, is the Misano World Circuit not far from the Adriatic coast of Rimini. The top four in the overall standings are separated by just eleven points.

Dominique Aegerter comes to the final two races of this season in current fourth place overall. A year ago, there was a double event in Misano, where the 30-year-old rider from Rohrbach was twice on the podium, once as third and once winning the race, before he was involved in a starting accident in the second race of the second weekend and therefore, he only finished in 16th place. Unfortunately, that was the beginning of his 2020 title mission coming to an unfortunate end, as he had to go down again innocently at the finale in France. This time the conditions are different, as the Dynavolt Intact GP rider has a gap to make up. To maintain his chance of the overall win, Aegerter has set his sights on two race wins this weekend.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica):

"I am really looking forward to the Misano weekend. I have already raced there this year and was even extremely successful. In Supersport World Championship I had a such a great weekend with two race wins back in June. But now it is off to the MotoE season finale. With one race each on Saturday and Sunday, everything is still open. But before that I am looking forward to seeing my guys from the Intact team again. Misano is a track that suits me well. I rode there for the first time with the Energica bike last year. There are nice and not so nice memories, when I won once and unfortunately got down once too. But I think that this year luck is on my side."

"Apart from that, I will be giving my all from Friday onwards, first to get a good starting position. Unfortunately, one free practice session was taken off the schedule. So, in the two remaining sessions we cannot afford to make a mistake, but with a view to the E-pole everything has to be perfectly prepared on Friday evening. In addition, we absolutely have to start from further up front this time than last time at Spielberg. Our starting position may not be worse than on the second row of the starting grid and then we will go into the races with the goal of fighting for the title."

"For that, I will already give my 110 percent on Saturday and then on Sunday again. It won't be easy because, with an eleven-point gap to the current overall leader, it will take someone else’s help. Nevertheless, I will leave no stone unturned to win both races and, above all, having a lot of fun out on track so, then it will definitely be a little easier to block out the tension and stay relaxed. But I feel well prepared and mentally very strong to successfully master this task."
