2022/04/24 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2022: Dutch Round / Sunday Race Report

Everything won at the team’s home round

Dominique Aegerter crowned a super successful weekend at the TT Circuit of Assen with a fantastic victory in the second race on Sunday.

Dominique Aegerter and his Dutch Ten Kate Yamaha Racing team had every reason to rejoice after their outstanding home race at Assen’s TT Circuit. The 31-year-old rider from the canton of Berne was in a class of his own in the second race of the weekend, although he did not get the best start.

Initially, Aegerter was involved in a three-way battle for second place, while Can Öncü was able to pull away slightly at the front right from the start. The young rider from Turkey was not able to maintain the leading position for long, however, as Aegerter and his fiercest rival in the championship, Italian Lorenzo Baldassarri, quickly caught up and soon passed Öncü. Baldassarri was then the leader for a lap before Aegerter got serious, outsmarting the Italian rider and from then on pulling away from the rest of the field. After the full race distance of 18 laps, the Yamaha rider had a lead of more than two seconds over his first pursuer.

The championship continues in four weeks’ time with the meeting in Estoril not far from Portuguese’s capital Lisbon.

Grid position: Pole-Position / Race 2: Winner

"Like last year, Assen was again a perfect weekend for us. Once again, we managed to take everything it was to win there: pole position, with a new all-time record, two race wins and, to top it all, the fastest race lap twice. You cannot get more out of it on a race weekend. So, we can be very satisfied and, as far as I am concerned, I am also a bit proud of these results. I am overwhelmed to be that much successful here in Assen. I like this track and the weather also played its part, even if it was a bit windy at times, in making our home race a terrific success again. In addition, we have made a super start to the new championship. In the first four races we scored almost the maximum points."

"My Ten Kate team has played a big part in these successes. They always do a fantastic job in terms of bike set-up, including tyre choice and the right gear ratio. In addition, our engine tuner does an incredible job either. All in all, they always give me a super-fast bike that is also very easy to ride. In addition to the thanks to the entire team, this also goes to all sponsors and partners for visiting us this weekend and supporting us on site. That is always an additional motivation boost for me. But now I am looking forward to getting together again in Estoril in four weeks' time and hopefully continuing in the same way. Before that, it is straight to Jerez for the MotoE World Cup opener in a few days."

"To experience a weekend like this is something very special. Ten Kate has its home just 30 minutes from here. In addition, most of the team's sponsors are also from the Netherlands. So, it is more than understandable that they will not miss this opportunity to visit us at our home race. Likewise, it is a pleasure to race in front of the Dutch fans. So, I am happy to give all to them something special back for their support and cheering. Apart from that, Assen will be remembered fondly for a year at least."
