2022/04/28 - FIM MotoE™ World Cup 2022: Gran Premio de Espana / Preview

Third attempt to clinch the MotoE™ World Cup

This weekend sees the start of the racing season in the electric bike series in Andalusia as part of the Gran Premio de Espana.

The MotoE™ World Cup starts its fourth season at the Circuito de Jerez. Dominique Aegerter is taking part for the third time and, as in the previous two years, the 31-year-old all-rounder in motorcycle racing from the canton of Berne will be chasing points and the title with the German Dynavolt Intact GP team.

Jerez de la Frontera introduces a new schedule for the first time in MotoE. As of now, there will be two races at each race weekend, as well as two qualifying heats instead of the previous E-Pole. The first eight placed riders after free practice sessions make it through Q2 directly, while in Q1 the top two have the chance to make this step either.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Dynavolt Intact GP, Energica):

"Unlike my crew in Intact, I have been in race fever for quite some time. With three victories at the first two meetings in Supersport World Championship, the season got off to a very encouraging start. But now it is also time getting underway in MotoE. In pre-season, we had two three-day testings in Jerez. Unfortunately, the weather was not very consistent on either occasion. Nevertheless, we got lots of track time each though, there is not much new in terms of technology. Instead, I have a new crew with whom I am very happy. Patrick Mellauner is my new crew chief and Thomas Joan Salvo is the mechanic. We got along great right from the start, so we quickly got used to each other. In addition, there is a new timetable at the race weekends."

"Energica has brought a new engine for this year. However, not much has changed in terms of power and number of laps that can be done in a row. In the fourth year of this project, eight laps are still the maximum that the battery allows. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to the upcoming racing season in this championship, as well as reuniting with the whole Intact team, which comes to Jerez with some nice results from the last Moto2 races. I am excited before the first race weekend, because there is just a new schedule, which also provides for each event with one race on Saturday and Sunday each. This increases the number of races to 14 this year, in which a lot can happen. But we have a clear goal, and that is to be at the front of the pack every time."
