2022/07/29 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2022: Czech Round / Friday's FP Report

Most with new lap record commenced

By posting a fantastic record lap in the second Friday practice, Dominique Aegerter also underlined his supremacy in Supersport World Championship at the opening day of the series visit to the Czech Republic.

Round six of the season at the Autodrom Most, located in the northwest of the Czech Republic got underway in fine weather and good conditions. Renovations to the track were partly responsible for the fact that the lap record from last year, when Most made its debut in the WorldSBK calendar, was already shaken in free practice one this morning.

Dominique Aegerter and his Dutch Ten Kate team continued their flight of fancy at the start of the weekend. The 31-year-old Swiss finished both free practice sessions as fastest rider of the highly competitive WorldSSP class. In much warmer conditions, however, Aegerter went one better when he set a new record with a 1:34.952. In doing so, he also was the only rider to stay under the 1:35 mark.

The first race of the weekend will start on Saturday afternoon at 15:15 CET. As usual, there will be a live stream on ServusTV.com. The starting grid will be determined in Superpole from 10:25 to 10:45 CEST, which will also be live-streamed.

FP1: P1 - 1´35.216 / FP2: P1 - 1´34.952

"I am very happy to be back in the Czech Republic. The successful start to the weekend makes it even nicer to race in Most again. In addition, the track operators have also done a lot for safety. The renewal of the asphalt surface in the first section is paying off because there are less bumps in the chicane than last year now. You also notice that some riders have been here before this year, either for testing or like others who started in IDM. But I did not let that distract me. On the contrary, we were already very fast in FP1 and in the second session we were able to lap very consistently. The new lap record shows that we did our job well today. We also collected a lot of data for tomorrow, when we go straight into qualifying and then into the first race. However, there could be a change in the weather with some rain which would change everything. But the track’s conditions are always the same for everyone. I think we are well prepared for everything, even though I am hoping for dry conditions because I have not raced in the rain that often."

"The differences in terms of track conditions after resurfacing some parts can be clearly seen and also felt when riding. This is also shown by the lap times, which are already faster than the lap record. The chicane is now really fun to go through. In turn two it was very bumpy, and the rear also started to get out of control very easily when changing direction. But now you immediately have grip on the rear wheel. The same goes for the last corner. In other places, the run-off zones and gravel beds have been extended. So, my thanks go to Most for their efforts to make the track a bit safer. It is not easy not to think about the tenth win in a row, because I am constantly being asked about it. It would certainly be something very special if I succeed in this indeed. On the other hand, we already have achieved something incredible with second place in Aragón and then nine wins in a row. The remarkable thing is that we have achieved these successes on the most varied of tracks and in the most varied of conditions. Of course, you can dream about records. But the most important thing is that we continue to extend our lead in the overall standings and fight for the world championship till the end. For this goal we will give everything at all times."
