2023/02/24 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2023: Australian Round - Friday's FP Report

Dominique Aegerter: «Ready for first time attack»

The World Superbike Championship rookie from Switzerland finished Friday’s free practice sessions for the World Championship opener at Phillip Island in 13th place overall, but this does not reflect his solid performances.

Persistent midsummer weather in the most southern part of Australia also thrilled everyone on Friday, even if it was almost unseasonably hot. In any case, 32-year-old Dominique Aegerter coped well with these conditions and finished this morning's FP1 in eleventh place. In free practice two, which took place in much warmer temperatures, the experienced Swiss rider was immediately faster than before and improved his time from the morning by more than a tenth of a second, which brought him sixth place. However, he slipped back two positions in the day's overall standings.

Before the all-important Superpole, which determines the starting grid for the first main race and the Superpole race on Sunday morning, the first race day of the year begins with FP3. At 06:00 CET, the first points chase starts, which can be seen in German-speaking countries via live stream on Servustv.com. The broadcast begins as early as 05:10 with extensive pre-event coverage.

FP1: P11 - 1´31.855 / FP2: P6 - 1´31.720

"All in all, it was a good start to the weekend. In FP1 we worked with the harder tyre option, while in the afternoon we switched to the softer one. The conditions were not easy as it was very hot today, and the wind was constantly coming from different directions. What pleases me most is that we improved a good bit in terms of race pace. That is a very important point here on this track. Apart from that, we showed a good performance in both sessions, even if the placing at the end of the day is not that impressive. But I think we are definitely ready for the time attack in the first Superpole of the year, and I am also looking forward to the first race tomorrow afternoon to get all the impressions that come with it. The team is doing a great job and hopefully the weather will remain stable so we can continue to enjoy the weekend to the full."
