2023/05/04 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2023: Catalunya Round / Preview

Going to Barcelona in best shape

Dominique Aegerter has not only shown with his impressive fourth place in Assen that he has long since established himself in the Superbike World Championship. Accordingly, he goes into the next race weekend strengthened.

At the last stop of the series just under two weeks ago in the north of the Netherlands, Dominique Aegerter showed his potential very impressively by consistently placing in the top ten. The longer the weekend lasted in Assen, the better his results became, with the absolute highlight when he achieved a strong fourth place on Sunday.

The ambitious rider wants to continue this momentum this weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in the north-eastern outskirts of Catalonia's vibrant capital. Optimal preparation for the upcoming task is given by a two-day test a few weeks ago, during which the 32-year-old Yamaha rider and his crew gathered very helpful insights.

The race weekend begins as usual with two free practice sessions on Friday at 10:30 and 15:00. On Saturday, further important sessions are scheduled with FP3 at 9:00 and Superpole at 11:10, before the first main race of the weekend gets underway at 14:00 over 20 laps.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, Yamaha YZF R1)

"After our test in Barcelona at the end of March, we should be well prepared for the upcoming weekend, the fourth round of the current championship. The conditions on these two days were good and I was able to put in a lot of laps. The final result was quite okay because I was close to the top. But in terms of race pace, we still have to work a bit on my driving style and set-up. For a fast lap or for the Superpole race we should be in a good position. But Barcelona is very unusual in one respect, namely that the track’s surface is quite tyre-killing. So, how we handle the tyres over the long distances will be very important. From that point of view, it is going to be very interesting to start the weekend because we have been collecting a lot of data lately."

"In any case, I am going to Barcelona strengthened by the Assen weekend. That will certainly give me a boost. Otherwise, I was always working on my fitness and did it well during the break and also having had a good recovery, the preparation was generally good as always. Apart from that, I am looking forward to seeing my team again and getting back on my Yamaha R1. So, I will try to be as strong as last time in Assen, where I was consistently in the top ten. It would be nice if I can show my potential again."
