With ninth place in Saturday's race, Dominique Aegerter achieved one of the goals he had set himself for the weekend. However, the ambitious racer was not entirely satisfied.
First race day at the season’s finale of the FIM Superbike World Championship at the Circuito de Jerez in southern Spain was accompanied by glorious weather. Despite the bright sunshine, Dominique Aegerter was occasionally seen scowling, although he put in an amazing performance on only his second race weekend back from injury.
The 34-year-old Yamaha rider rode to 13th place in Superpole, which meant the fifth row on the grid. That in itself was a good improvement on last week in Estoril. However, Aegerter did not want to be satisfied with his lap time, as the front runners were significantly faster than last year.
By the start of the first main race of the weekend, this annoyance was long gone and Aegerter went all in right from the start. He got well away from the line and battled with the Italian Axel Bassani and the American Garrett Gerloff for almost the entire race distance, where he saw the chequered flag in ninth place in the sandwich of this trio.
The final race of the 2024 WSBK season can be seen on television on Sunday: ServusTV starts with its recording at 14:45, including Superpole Race, Eurosport 2 at 17:00. Live broadcasts are only available on the digital platforms «ServusTV Online» or in the paid live stream on the official WorldSBK website.

Grid position 13 / Race 1: P9
«In Superpole I did a 1'38.8. That was roughly the same time as last year. But back then I was second on the grid. Today it was only enough for 13th place. That shows how fast the others were. I also have to say that my body is still very sore. I am still lacking strength in my shoulder and my ribs hurt when I breathe. My start to the race was not bad. I fought a lot with Gerloff and Bassani. I think I was a bit faster and could have finished seventh or eighth. But in the end, I am also happy with ninth place. Tomorrow I will give everything to finish the Superpole Race in the top nine, because the starting position is very important. Hopefully I can do that. But first of all, I am happy with today's top ten result, because that means I have achieved my first goal for this weekend. A big thank you to all the support we have here. It helps me to overcome the severe pain.»
