For Dominique Aegerter, the second day of the first race weekend of the new season in Australia turned out to be more difficult than he would have liked. Nevertheless, he scored three points for the championship with twelfth place in the afternoon.
The glorious late summer weather at Phillip Island in the south of Australia lived up to its name on the first day of racing. The 2025 FIM Superbike World Championship opened with a heat race that nobody would have expected.
After a strong free practice session on Friday morning, Dominique Aegerter had to settle for 15th place in Superpole, which decided the starting grid. The 34-year-old got off to a good start from the fifth row and quickly worked his way into the top ten. His crew completed the obligatory pit stop for a tyre change with flying colours and Aegerter's timing was also right, allowing him to rejoin the top ten when entering the track again. In the final stages, however, the Yamaha rider had to give up two positions despite all his resistance. After 20 super-strenuous laps, he saw the chequered flag in twelfth place.
On free-to-air television in German-speaking countries, «ServusTV» will begin early Sunday morning at 05:10 CET with comprehensive coverage of the second race day in 2025. Those who want to watch all sessions live can do so via live streams on «ServusTV On», the official WorldSBK website and the «Eurosport Player» app.
#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK, Yamaha YZF R1)
Grid position 15 / Race 1: P12
«Our qualifying was not so good, not what I had expected. 15th on the grid was not the best starting position for today and also not for tomorrow's Superpole Race. The conditions were much warmer today than yesterday and the wind direction has also changed by 180 degrees. That was why we had to change the bike a little and also the gear ratio. Everything together changed the handling of the bike a bit, which I first had to get used to. We still have some work to do before tomorrow, because twelfth place like today is the position I want to achieve. We will now put our heads together and continue to work hard so that we can hopefully take a step forward tomorrow. My crew did a great job at the pit stop; they were very quick. But we need to improve on track and with the set-up of the bike and make progress with the electronics to be more consistent and faster.»
