2025/03/29 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2025: Portuguese Round / Saturday's Superpole & Race 1

First top ten this year

Dominique Aegerter achieved a remarkable improvement on Saturday in Portimao, which took him to eighth place in Superpole. The experienced Swiss Superbike rider then confirmed this performance in the first race of the weekend at famous Portugal’s Algarve coastline.

The first race day on the second race weekend of the new season was characterized by glorious weather with very warm temperatures. Spring has arrived in the south of Portugal, where the challenging Autódromo Internacional do Algarve is located not far from the port city of Portimao. After the many weather-related streaky tests in recent weeks and months, all participants are looking forward to stable conditions on these days at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.

Dominique Aegerter started the second day of the 2025 FIM Superbike World Championship meeting with a tenth place in the third free practice session in the morning. On his fastest lap, the Yamaha rider was seven tenths of a second faster than on Friday afternoon. But that was just the beginning of his upward trend. In the Superpole, which decides the starting grid, Aegerter improved to a 1'39.849, putting him in eighth place on the third row of the grid. In an exciting race in the afternoon, he found himself in a four-way battle. In the end, he defended his starting position and crossed the finish line in eighth place after 20 laps.

On Sunday, the short Superpole Race and the second race over the long distance are on the schedule. Live broadcasts on free-to-air television will be provided by «ServusTV» and Eurosport. Attention! Changeover to summer time tonight means one hour less sleep.

Grid position 8 / Race 1: P8

«I am happy about my first top ten finish of the year although, the improvement did not come from anywhere. We worked hard and improved. In Superpole, I managed what I thought was a very impressive lap time, even though I would have expected a bit more to be further up the grid. But the lap time was good. The race took place in good conditions. Itis always great fun to ride in bright sunshine. I fought in the group from sixth to ninth place and P8 is the result of a good performance overall. I am also happy for Andrea Locatelli, who made it onto the podium in third place. He did a strong race, congratulations! We will now look at his data and try to find out what he did differently to make up the gap. From that point of view, anything is possible tomorrow. Before that, I will try to get a good night's sleep and recover well because I want to be in the top nine in Superpole Race and then we will go full throttle again in the second long race.»
