Dominique Aegerter started the first main race of the weekend in France from the fourth row and crossed the finish line in eighth place after 21 laps, which he was not unhappy with.

For Dominique Aegerter, Saturday at the World Championship’ visit to the Burgundy region, France, began with a significant improvement in his lap time. In Superpole, the 34-year-old was almost a second faster on qualifying tires than his personal best time in free practice. 

This meant that the Yamaha rider left the line from twelfth spot on the starting grid. He got off to a good start but lost a few positions on the first lap. Aegerter was particularly pleased with eighth place, as it earned him important points for the championship.

Due to a scheduling conflict with the Grand Prix of Catalonia in Barcelona, the second main race on Sunday afternoon will not start until 3:30 p.m. CEST.

«Eighth place in today's race is not bad because we scored some good points with that. Remy finished sixth. That means we achieved a very respectable team result, which I am also happy about. Unfortunately, we lost a better starting position in qualifying due to a yellow flag. That meant I had to start the race from twelfth on the grid. On the first lap, it came to a contact with another rider, which caused me to lose a few positions. On the other hand, I benefited from other riders crashing out after the start. After a pretty good pace in FP2, I had expected to be able to ride a bit faster. We will work on that to achieve our goal of finishing in the top nine in Superpole Race. We are in the group, but we are a few tenths off the pace needed to leave the guys behind us.»
