After his last race of the year, Dominique Aegerter heads into the winter break with an incredible number of wonderful memories.
It was already the eleventh edition of «La 100 KM Dei Campioni», organized by no less than Valentino Rossi himself at his training ranch in Tavullia, Italy, which took place from Thursday to Saturday this week. Each time, «The Doctor» invites 45 top-class motorcycle racers to this meanwhile legendary event.
For Dominique Aegerter, it was his seventh start at this off-road spectacle. Immediately after the end of the Jerez test last Thursday, his first with the Kawasaki WorldSSP Team, he rushed to the airport in Seville to be on time for Friday's practice sessions in Tavullia. With his fastest practice time, he finished in twelfth place.
In the main race of the weekend, the 100-kilometer flat track race, he took part alongside Spaniard Xavier Artigas, a former Grand Prix winner who mainly competed in Moto2 European Championship this year. The duo ultimately finished in eleventh place, just over two minutes behind the winners Francesco Bagnaia and Augusto Fernandez.
#77 Dominique AEGERTER
«The last two days have once again been a very special experience for me. It is always a great honour to be invited by Valentino Rossi to this event, where 45 other legends compete alongside the greatest legend himself. I am also a bit proud to be the only rider from the German-speaking area to have taken part seven times at the VR46 Ranch. It was a bit of a shame that I missed the first day, because I was still a little unfamiliar with the Kawasaki bike that was kindly provided for me for this event, and it needed a little bit more fine-tuning. Unlike all the other participants, who were all riding highly tuned bikes, I had some catching up to do in this respect. In addition, unlike most of the others, it was my first time back on a flat track in a long time.»
«Nevertheless, it was incredibly enjoyable. I got my money's worth right from the first practice session, and it was no different in the sprint race and the elimination race in «Americano» style. But the actual «La 100 KM Dei Campioni», in which I raced together with Xavi Artigas as my partner, was also super cool. We took turns for all five laps and finished eleventh, which wasn't bad in such a high-calibre field. But even away from the sporting action, the event is great fun, and the opportunity to chat with Valentino here and there is the icing on the cake and gives you goosebumps. All in all, it was just awesome again! So, I would like to thank Valentino Rossi and his team for the invitation and hope that I can be there again next time.»
