2026/06/12 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2026: Emilia-Romagna Round / Friday's Free Practice Session & Tissot Superpole

Sixth row start with close gap to the front

On Friday, Dominique Aegerter was able to slightly improvement his Performance at round seven of this year’s Supersport World Championship in Misano. Although he only managed a small jump forward in the timesheets, he was just slightly more than half a second off pole time at the end of the day.

The traditional date of the World Championship’s visit to the Misano World Circuit in mid-June promised early summer weather. And that’s exactly what it was like when the FIM Superbike World Championship and its support classes kicked off the second half of the season on Friday.

Dominique Aegerter and his Kawasaki WorldSSP Team have set their sights high for this weekend because not only it is the team’s home race, but in a way, it is also a home race for him. Both sides are hoping for a turning point in what has been a very difficult season so far, as the 35-year-old Swiss rider's return to the Supersport class is proving to be more challenging than expected.

Aegerter finished Free Practice session later this morning in 17th place, already with a small gap of just 0.8 seconds off the fastest time. In the afternoon, when it went straight into Superpole, where the starting grid was determined, the sun had already heated the Italian asphalt up to 47 degrees at that point. Nevertheless, lap times were generally faster than during the morning session.

Aegerter improved his lap time by six-tenths of a second. With a lap time of 1´37.433, the Kawasaki rider finished in 18th place and will therefore start from the sixth row of the grid on Saturday afternoon in the first race of the weekend — which, incidentally, marks his 400th World Championship race — at the popular World Championship event close to Rimini at Italy’s famous Adriatic coastline.

Superpole: P18 - 1´37.433 +0.678| Provisional Grid Position 18th

«We finished the day very close to the top guys. I’m happy about that. But it wasn’t an easy task, since we gave it our all in every corner to shave off a few more tenths. The team did a great job, because we’ve closed the gap to the front. Our lap time is really strong, but the grid position doesn’t reflect that. Since I’m starting from 18th on the grid in what is expected to be a very hot race, I’ll have to give it my all to move up through the field. But I can count on the support of the many fans. Many of them have travelled from Switzerland to cheer me on — that’s an extra motivation for me and that’s why I’ll step it up a notch for them. If we manage to reach the Points scoring positions right from the start and even break into the top ten as the race goes on, then I think we can have a strong race. But first of all, thank you very much to everyone for their support and help.»
