From Dominique Aegarter's perspective, the second race at round seven of this year’s FIM Supersport World Championship in Italy got off to a very promising start, before he later got stuck in heavy traffic on the track.
On Sunday, 35-year-old Dominique Aegerter secured three more points with a 13th-place finish. However, the Kawasaki rider could have achieved even more. A few ill-advised moves by his direct rivals in the closing stages of a fiercely contested race cost the rider from the canton of Bern a better result.
Nevertheless, Aegerter managed to continue the upward trend that had been evident since the start of the weekend. Thanks to a strong start, he gained a position on the first lap. On the second lap, he overtook three riders at once and briefly moved up to 14th place in the standings, and it looked as though he would be able to continue making up ground in this manner.
However, a pass by an opponent cost him time and several positions. Over the course of 18 intense laps, Aegerter managed to make up some ground before the battle came to a head in the final laps.

«The home race for Manuel Puccetti’s Kawasaki WorldSSP Team is in the books. It was truly impressive to see how many guests came to visit us here Misano and to cheer us on — thank you all so much for coming and for your support. We made some progress over the weekend and closed the gap on the front. But I’ve also improved myself, as I now feel more comfortable on the bike and have been able to better adapt my riding style to the Kawasaki’s requirements. Today’s 13th-place finish isn’t the result we’d hoped for. But we held our own near the top 5, and Jeremy finished in fifth place, coming home first among our group. Congratulations to him. I had a bit of bad luck in the last two laps due to two pretty hard bumps from other riders, each of which cost me a few positions. A big thank you to the team for their hard and good work, because in this heat it was a huge challenge for everyone. The most important thing is that we’ve improved, and that gives us a boost for the next round at Donington.»
