Dominique Aegerter had hoped for a bit more at the opening day of the first race weekend following the nearly seven-week summer break, but he is confident that he and his crew can shave off a few tenths of a second to deliver strong performances in front of his loyal fans on Saturday and Sunday.
 
The Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in Burgundy is hosting round nine of the 2026 FIM Supersport World Championship this weekend and welcomed its guests amid consistently beautiful mid-summer weather. In a Superpole session that was hot in every sense of the word, and not just because of temperatures hovering around the mid-30s, the starting grid for the first race was determined on Friday afternoon. 

Dominique Aegerter, 35, and his Kawasaki WorldSSP Team didn't get off to the best start this weekend. Finishing in P20 and trailing the fastest time by just over one and a half seconds, they still had a lot of work ahead of them heading into the time-attack for the best starting positions.

During this 40-minute session in the afternoon heat in France, Aegerter needed several attempts to set an acceptable lap time at the 4-kilometer track. It wasn’t until the very last moment that the Kawasaki rider managed to improve his time to a 1’40.659, which ultimately earned him 15th place. Due to a grid penalty for another rider, he will move up one spot on the starting grid for Saturday’s race.

The 17th race of the season will start on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CEST.

«We’re finally back from summer break, which was way too long for my taste. I’m super happy to return into race mode. This morning’s free practice didn’t go entirely smoothly, but the team worked really hard during the lunch break leading up to the Superpole session to give me a better bike. In the afternoon, however, there were a lot of yellow flags, and we ended up in 15th place, one second behind pole position time. Of course, I had hoped for a bit more, even though we’re still struggling a little. Nevertheless, I give it my all every time going out on track and work hard to help us make improvements. In tomorrow morning’s warm-up, we’ll try a few things to take a step forward, and in the afternoon, I’ll give it my all to put in a strong performance, particularly for the many fans and sponsors who are supporting us here this weekend. As always, Magny-Cours feels like a home race to me. So, a big thank you to everyone who’s coming here this weekend to cheer us on.»
