For Dominique Aegerter, this weekend's season finale in Spain marks the end of a largely disappointing championship for him and, at the same time, the end of his partnership with the Kawasaki WorldSSP Team.
As in previous years, the World Championship’s visit to the famous Circuito de Jerez, just outside the capital of the unique Sherry wine, Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia, marks the conclusion of a long season in FIM Supersport World Championship. Almost every rider knows the Jerez circuit inside and out. Thanks to his long career, Jerez is very familiar territory for Dominique Aegerter.
The ambitious Dominique Aegerter looks on the season's final race weekend with a touch of wistfulness. After switching to Kawasaki last winter and returning to Supersport World Championship, he largely fell short of expectations this year. The transition to the 600-cc Kawasaki machine proved to be more difficult than expected.
It wasn’t until the last weekend of September in Cremona, Italy, that the 35-year-old Swiss rider and his Kawasaki started to make visible progress, helping to make the overall package more competitive. Nevertheless, Aegerter had to wait from his sixth-place finish in Assen in April until last Sunday in Estoril to secure another top ten in a race. Aegerter is highly motivated to continue this uphill trend in Jerez and to end the season in style, if possible, with a real highlight.
#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636)
«We’re heading into the final race weekend of the season and taking the positives from Cremona and Estoril with us to Jerez, because we took another good step forward last weekend as I’m feeling more comfortable with the bike. Thanks to the team’s hard work, and mine as well, we’re more competitive. We showed a great pace recently, so I’m confident we’ll have a good last weekend. We need another fast start on Friday and have to finish in the top nine in Superpole. I believe we can do it. I know this will be my last opportunity with the Puccetti Team and Kawasaki, but I’m well prepared and fully motivated to give my all again and end the season on a high note. We have nothing to lose, but a lot to prove!»
«In any case, I’m looking forward to Jerez, where I really like the track and have great memories, both from my time in the Supersport and Superbike classes. It’s also a track where we completed several test runs with the Kawasaki last winter, so we’ve already a base. So, I’m hoping for a great season finale with nice weather and lots of fans cheering us on. But Jerez is also always a popular destination for many sponsors, who will visit us and show their support. Even though a chapter is coming to an end for me this Sunday afternoon, I’m relaxed and in good spirits, ready to give it my all one last time this year.»
