2026/10/17 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣: Spanish Round / Saturday' Race 1️⃣

Increasing level of performance confirmed by first Top 5

Dominique Aegerter put in a tenacious performance in Saturday's race at Jerez de la Frontera, which was rewarded with a fifth-place finish. This brings a top 15 finish in the overall standings within reach.

With fourth place on the starting grid that Dominique Aegerter secured in Superpole on Friday afternoon, the 35-year-old and his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636 seamlessly continued their momentum. The result of Saturday morning’s warm-up didn’t matter, as the rider from the canton of Bern and his crew from the Kawasaki WorldSSP Team used the session primarily to prepare for the race.

With a strong reaction at the start to the second-last race of the season, Aegerter laid the base for his best race result of the year so far. Although the Kawasaki rider was unable to quite hold onto his excellent starting position, he held his own in the first chasing group and was in seventh place after the opening lap.

After Aegerter had temporarily dropped back two more positions, he managed to significantly pick up his pace at the start of the second third of the 17-laps distance. With a clear track ahead of him, he demonstrated the current strength of his package with a series of very fast lap times and closed a gap of more than a second to the riders ahead of him practically in the blink of an eye.

Once there, however, it was no easy task for the outgoing Kawasaki rider to overtake his rivals. But with iron determination and a top 5 finish in sight, he overtook two more riders and ultimately crossed the finish line in fifth place. Incidentally, Aegerter and his teammate Jeremy Alcoba were by far the fastest riders on the 4.2-kilometer-long Circuito de Jerez in the final stages.

The 2026 Supersport World Championship comes to a close on Sunday with the 24th and final race of the season with starting time at 14:00 CEST. Tune-in at «ServusTV ON».

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636)
Grid position 4 / Race 1: P5

«I'm very happy with today's race and am even more pleased with my best result of the season so far. I got off to a good start from fourth place and finished fifth. More importantly, though, we maintained a strong pace throughout the race, especially in the middle section, where I was really fast and was able to catch up to a few riders ahead of me. Still, we need to improve a bit more, especially in the early stages, to be more competitive and able to attack. That will give us a bigger advantage towards the end. Once again, congratulations to Jeremy on his great performance, which earned him second place on the podium today. Let’s see what the weather brings tomorrow. It could very well get a bit tricky. But if it stays dry, we’ll try to find a tenth or two here and there, which will make me faster in the early stages. But first, I’m glad to end the season on a high note, because we weren’t entirely satisfied over the course of the year. This weekend gives me new momentum and more self-confidence. We’ll keep working hard until the very end, and I hope that will allow me to achieve another strong result for Kawasaki tomorrow. I’m highly motivated to successfully wrap up the season and my time in green.»
