Dominique Aegerter's comeback after his long break due to injuries to his upper body went better than expected. He finished the second-last race weekend of the season in 13th place on Sunday afternoon.
After two cloudy days with constantly changing conditions, the weather was kind to the participants on Sunday at Estoril close to the Portuguese Atlantic coast. In predominantly good conditions and plenty of sunshine, exciting motorsport was on offer.
34-year-old Dominique Aegerter already drew attention to himself in the first main race on Saturday afternoon when he roared into the points in 14th place at his comeback after two months. However, the competition over 21 strenuous laps at the almost 4.2-kilometer Circuito do Estoril left its mark. Nevertheless, he was not deterred by this and went into Superpole Race, which he finished in 16th place, and later into the second race over the long distance. The ambitious rider from Bern defied the pain and saw the chequered flag in 13th place, collecting three more points for the championship.
The 2024 FIM Superbike World Championships will come to an end in a week's time with the season finale at the Circuito de Jerez in Andalusia.

«We scored points again, even one more than yesterday. To be honest, I did not expect that because when I woke up this morning, I did not feel good. Even after the long race yesterday afternoon, my physical condition was anything but good. I still lack the strength in my right shoulder. So, I had to compensate for this deficit with other muscles. Nevertheless, I am happy to be back on my racing bike, even if I still have a lot of pain when riding. But it is definitely better than sitting at home. This weekend was a good training for Jerez. I hope that I can recover well over the next few days and also build up some muscles in my shoulder so that I can do better at the season finale. My team has done a great job. Of course, I want to give them back more than what I achieved yesterday and today. Yamaha also did a good job, because as you could see they were a bit more competitive here. That is certainly positive. So, I am looking forward to the last races in Jerez in a week's time. I wish Remy a speedy recovery and that he is fit for the winter tests.»
