The 34-year-old Swiss WorldSBK rider fights his way back to the top ten on his second race weekend after an injury. He finished Friday in Jerez less than half a second behind the tenth-placed rider.
In contrast to Friday a week ago in Estoril, the season’s finale of FIM Superbike World Championship at the Circuito de Jerez began with plenty of sunshine and good conditions. Apart from that nice fact, the last few days were good for Dominique Aegerter to recover and train his body.
Nevertheless, it was not an easy start to the weekend for the Yamaha rider from the canton of Bern, as it took a few laps for him in the morning to feel comfortable again in race mode aboard his Yamaha Superbike. Aegerter finished the first free practice session in 17th place.
In similar conditions in the afternoon, only a few riders managed to make a big leap in improving their times. The 34-year-old Aegerter, who will compete in the Superbike World Championship again next year in the same environment, found four tenths of a second on his FP1 lap time and improved to 14th place. At the end of the day, he was 0.8 seconds off today’s best marker, which meant a P16 overall.
Eurosport 2 will be reporting live from the first main race of the weekend in southern Spain on Saturday from 13:45. ServusTV will start with a recording at 14:45. Live broadcasts will also be available on ServusTV's digital platforms and on the official WorldSBK website.
#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, Yamaha YZF R1)
FP1: P17 - 1´40.813 / FP2: P14 - 1´40.402
«During Free Practice 1 this morning, I initially struggled a bit with pain in my shoulder and ribs. But as my body adapted to the strain on the bike again, it got better from lap to lap. Our gap has become much smaller, not to the top, but we are very close to the top ten. If you cannot give 100 percent because of your body, then you quickly miss one or two tenths, which can make a big difference. But I hope that my body continues to recover so that I feel better and can finish the season well.»
«Tomorrow it will be important to put in a strong time attack in Superpole, and in the race I want to be able to fight for a position in the top ten. But it will be a long and exhausting race, which also applies to the weekend. Nevertheless, I will do my best. I am also happy about the great support from many fans and sponsors coming from Switzerland to join me at the season’s finale here in Jere. I will try to give them a lot of pleasure and end the season on a high.»
