At the spectacular rollercoaster track of Portimao, Dominique Aegerter wants to make an important step catching up with the top of the highly competitive FIM Superbike World Championship.

Following the early start to the World Championship racing with production-based bikes, which traditionally takes place on the last weekend of February in South Australia, the fiercely contested WorldSBK series enters its second round this weekend. The venue is the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve not far from the Portuguese port city of Portimao in the south of the country.

A week and a half ago, Dominique Aegerter and his Italian-based GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK team took the opportunity to shorten the long wait for the next races with a test at the same circuit. The two-day trip to southern Europe then was also a good preparation for the tasks that await the 34-year-old experienced racer from the canton of Bern on the next race weekends.

The 4.5-kilometer Portimao circuit is one of the most demanding on the calendar due to its uniquely selective layout but is also very popular with all riders.

«ServusTV» and Eurosport will broadcast the races from Portugal live on their TV channels this weekend. Alternatively, there are live streams on digital platforms such as the online portal of the Austrian broadcaster «ServusTV On», the «Eurosport Player» app and on the official WorldSBK website, where all of the weekend's sessions will be broadcast live. However, the latter is subject to a fee and has an English commentary.

«I am happy to return to racing again after a month's break. I am looking forward to the second race weekend of the season, especially as the weather forecast is good. This increases the anticipation for Portimao even more. We were able to collect valuable data at the test the weekend before last and will now give everything to improve our overall performance. The aim must be to get the best out of the free practice sessions and do better than in Australia. I cannot wait to get down to the tasks ahead and push right from the beginning. I want to be consistent and fast in all sessions.»
