2025/04/10 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2025: Dutch Round / Preview

The «Cathedrale of Speed» is calling

With the championship’s visit this weekend to the legendary TT Circuit in Assen, Dominique Aegerter returns to one of his favourite tracks on the racing calendar.

After a difficult start to his new campaign in FIM Superbike World Championship at the end of February in Australia, Dominique Aegerter bounced back a fortnight ago in Portimao with a strong time attack in Superpole. Starting race one from eighth on the grid, the 34-year-old Swiss rider confirmed his improved level of performance with eighth place in Saturday's race. In the short Superpole Race, he had to give way to some of his rivals and finished 14th, but on Sunday afternoon the Yamaha rider made it back into the top ten in ninth place.

This weekend, the WorldSBK series heads to the TT Circuit Assen in the north of the Netherlands, round three of the year. The venue is just a stone's throw from the border with Germany. Aegerter celebrated some of his greatest victories in Assen when he won the Supersport World Championship title twice in a row with the Dutch Ten Kate Team from Nieuwleusen.

The 4.5 km long track has a unique character, as most of the corners are very fast and flowing. Assen also has a very long history in motorbike racing.

Live broadcasts of the WSBK races over the long distance will be shown this weekend on free-to-air television on «ServusTV». Alternatively, there will be live streams on digital platforms such as the online portal of the Austrian broadcaster «ServusTV On», the «Eurosport Player» and on the official WorldSBK website, where all of the weekend's sessions will be broadcast live. However, the latter is subject to a fee and has an English commentary.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, Yamaha YZF R1)

«I am looking forward to Assen because I really like the track. The TT Circuit and its surroundings are a beautiful place and the fans are great. However, the weather can always play a crucial role there, especially at this time of year. What is certain is that we may not expect any heat races. Apart from that, I hope that we can achieve good results this weekend and continue where we left off in Portimao. Being consistently in the top ten and putting in a strong performance in Superpole is clearly the goal. I will definitely try everything to be more competitive than in the first races. I feel well prepared, have trained well over the past week and have also received excellent physiotherapy for my shoulder.»

«So, everything is ready to fight and attack. It would also be an advantage if Yamaha would bring new parts again to make us even more competitive. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to the weekend, where many German-speaking fans will come to watch, because that always creates the atmosphere of a home race. I am also looking forward to my second visit to the Yamaha Europe headquarters in Amsterdam and will then also stop at ARAI Europe on the way to Assen. Two not unimportant appointments for me, and hopefully a short visit to Ten Kate will also work out. So, the weekend is off to a bit of hectic start for me.»
