With a solid performance, Dominique Aegerter achieved his best result of the season so far on Saturday at the legendary TT Circuit.
After his strong start to the weekend on Friday, when Dominique Aegerter shone with fifth place in FP1, hopes were high for an equally strong performance in Superpole, where conditions were like the previous day at this time. Aegerter impressed with a 1'33.274, which was his new personal record lap on the ultra-fluid track in the Netherlands. Nevertheless, he had to settle for eleventh place.
When the race started in the early afternoon, it was a few degrees warmer than the day before. Aegerter started from the fourth row and initially struggled to find a better pace. It was only in the final phase that the Yamaha rider had an advantage over his direct rivals and was able to work his way up to seventh place. This meant that the 34-year-old rider from Bern was once again the second-best Yamaha rider on Saturday.
As usual, the warm-up is scheduled for early in the morning on Sunday, followed by the Superpole race and the second main race of the weekend, which will start again at 14:00 CEST. It will be broadcast live on free-to-air television by «ServusTV».
#77 Dominique AEGERTER (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK, Yamaha YZF R1)
Grid position 11 / Race 1: P7
«To be honest, I would have expected a bit more for Superpole, even though the gaps were very close, and I set my fastest lap time ever in Assen today. My start in the afternoon from the fourth row was mediocre. Although I gave my maximum in the first laps, I could not keep up with the guys in front of me. But towards the end I got stronger and was able to maintain my pace. Of course, we also benefited from a few retirements. But you also have to get the race over the line yourself, because I had a few scary moments caused by the front tyre. I think it was at its limit on the last few laps because it was a bit warmer today than yesterday. But seventh place is the best result so far this year, and not bad either. On the other hand, the gap to the top is too big. Compared to Andrea Locatelli, you can see what is possible. He rode a very strong race. In any case, I congratulate him on his second place. But we have to take a step forward so that we can show our potential with the bike and the team.»
